In the recent times, terrorists and sabotuers has been using cars and trucks as bombs to destroy buildings and installations with losses in human lives. Many of the secured installations as well as public public places has instituted various security procedures to ensure the safety of the occupants or visitors to these facilities.

Security procedures instituted included the use of metal detectors to scan visitors and occupants entering a location. All bags and packages accompanying the personnel whom were being scanned are x-rayed and security passes are issued and are expected to be displayed prominently to enable the security personnel to check for unauthorised entry.

Prior to implementation of vehicle undercarriage scanning systems, mirrors are routinely attached to poles and inserted under the undercarriage of vehicles in an attempt to check for items secured onto the undercarriage. This method is highly unreliable as the lighting conditions under the car is inadequate and most of the time these security personnel are not able to do a proper check.

The VUC-Scanner is a wireless CCD vehicle undercarriage scanner with a mobile digital recording system. The system is portable and it can be set up, dismantled and relocated to various locations as and when the need arises. Vehicle undercarriage scanning is part of the security monitoring procedures instituted to prevent smuggling of contraband as well as explosives by securing them onto the undercarriage of vehicles. The undercarriage of the vehicle entering an installation is scanned by a ultra wide angled camera which is configured to operate under low lighting environment.The images captured aretransmitted and recorded 'real time' onto a digital video recorder for archiving or subsequent review as and when it is required. The scanning unit can be located at a distance (up to 100m) from the receiving unit, thus protecting the security personnel from explosives set off by suicide bombers or terrorist when their plot is detected.

The VUC-Scanner system will be customized by the manufacturer to suit the end users' monitoring requirement. This system is not made for the mass market as each individual user may have their own peculiar need taking into consideration the type of scanning required and the structures on which the system is mounted onto. It can be configured into a permanent system hard wired into the structures if required.

The "VUC-Scanner" package consist of the following:

CCD Scanner head
The CCD Scanner head consist of 1 unit high resolutions 1/4" CCD outdoor camera c/w 2.5mm lens and swivel bracket c/w built-in AVS2.4 wireless transmitter unit and 12VDC rechargeable battery

Undercarriage monitoring and recording station
The monitoring and recording station consist of 1 unit Mobile digital video recorder c/w AVS2.4 wireless receiver and battery or power adapter. A built-in 6.4”TFT monitor is also incorporated into the system for total mobility the whole system is encase in a heavy duty flight case.
